Northwest Community College's Terrace Campus (Terras, British Columbia Canada) will be hosting the 'Challenging the Paradigm: Decolonizing Post-Secondary Education' Conference from October 11-13th, 2007. The conference features a variety of workshops and guest speakers, as well as the first Northern Collaborative Learning Forum. The conference offers participants the opportunity to explore and engage in workshops that challenge the current post-secondary education paradigm. Topics which will be discussed and debated include: integrating the Aboriginal paradigm in education; enhancing Aboriginal access to Post-Secondary institutions; redressing colonization in the Post-Secondary system; and best practices in designing culturally relevant curriculum.
Conference organizers are also happy to have two prominent guest speakers to address the audience; Leroy Little Bear of the University of Lethbridge's Native Studies Department, as well as Dr. E Richard Atleo, Research Liasion at the University of Manitoba and Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria.
Included in the schedule is a faculty learning forum on integrating Aboriginal paradigms into mainstream curriculum, to be held on October 13, from 8:30-14:00.
Organizers welcome faculty, instructors, senior secondary teachers, administrators, Aboriginal Support Workers, and others involved in education, from public, independent and Aboriginal post-secondary school systems to register.
