THe IISD in the process of recruiting 5 Canadian Northern youth (age 19-30) from (Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, and northern Quebec and Labrador) to undertake up to 6 month internships in other circumpolar countries and in Southern Canada. Currently 3 out of the 5 placements are posted on line here. The remaining placements will be posted shortly.

The deadline to submit applications is June 22, 2009 or until all positions have been filled.  Placements will start in September. Information on how to apply and the application form is posted on the website above. Remuneration information will be provided to the interns.

Briefly, the Circumpolar Young Leaders Programme aims to give young people from the North the opportunity to improve their leadership skills, gain international work and domestic experience with institutions working on Northern issues, enhance their understanding of sustainable development, and join a unique network of young leaders who are working towards ensuring sustainability in the North.

Eligibility:
- Be a Northern Canadian citizen or landed immigrant (originally from, or living in, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, or northern Quebec and Labrador) not younger than 19 and not older than 30 years  of age (exceptions may apply)
- Have demonstrated interest or experience in circumpolar affairs and issues
- Be computer and Internet literate, including word processing, e-mail skills and experience in using the World Wide Web for research and information delivery
- Each work placement requires different skills. Applicants' formal education as well as other experience will be taken into consideration.
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Be able to live and work in multicultural environments; and
- Be flexible and adaptable
