Focus: Under the aim of sustainable production of agricultural and horticultural crops, the session aims to review of the plant production structure in the Arctic region, and the supply of locally produced agricultural crops.

Aims: The dependence of settlements in the Arctic area on imports of agricultural produce is of crucial importance for future development of sustainable infrastructure in the Arctic. The symposium aims to bring together and review the opportunities and obstacles in developing local production of key plant production commodities, such as vegetables and herbs. Possibilities of production of growth substrate via composting of waste products (e.g., from shrimp production) and seaweed, and greennhouse and open field production options for selected crops will be reviewed, including their economic feasibility.
