Abstract text

Geospatial technologies of Digital Earth conception give new opportunities for investigations in the field of Arctic environmental protection. The investigation of environmental changes were carried out in the Nenets and Yamal-Nenets autonomous districts. Timan-Pechersky oil-and-gas province is located in these districts. Intensive development of oil and gas fields takes place in this province. The investigation was fulfilled in the ArcGIS and QGIS environments as well as in the R environment for statistical analyses and modeling. Digital Earth technologies such as Google Earth and Google Maps services were applied for updating geodatabases (GDB). Besides, time series of Landsat satellite images were applied for ecological state environmental dynamic study. Freeware GDB were also used: (i) World energy for estimation of development oil and gas production enterprise influence on the environment, (ii) WDPA (World Database on Protected Areas) and CAFF (Conservation Arctic Flora and Fauna organization) for the study of negative influences on protected area system. As a result of fulfilled analysis various degree contamination area sets were created in the investigated autonomous districts. The use of satellite images analysis allowed to detect the increase oil and gas field development areas. It was concluded that anthropogenic influence has a great impact on environmental state and the obtained results can be successfully put into rational nature management use in the autonomous districts.
