|Author(s)||Maria Gostyaeva (Ural State University of Architecture and Art, Russian Federation), Nikolai Garin (Ural State University of Architecture and Art, Russian Federation)|
The series of posters introduces the existing tracks of research and creative practice within the School of Arctic Design, with reference to the development of the Arctic tourism sector. These tracks – ranging from ecotourism to cultural or ethnic tourism – signify a new phase of constructive interest among young designers and researchers in cultural, environmental and other issues related to the modern Arctic development, as well as in creation of efficient sustainable living systems based on advanced methods of design thinking and cutting-edge technologies. With the geographical reference to the Russian North, each project presents a detailed design exploration of what is involved in being a temporary visitor/tourist in severe environmental conditions, and what kind of clothing, dwelling and transportation it brings along.
