Get together at the informal picnic style lunch at the TellUs Innovation Arena, which is also one of the Congress venues. The arena is a unique multi-functional space located in the heart of the university campus area, designed to inspire connections and co-work. Guided bus tour of Oulu (optional, free of charge)

18:00 - 20:00

The 2-hour tour will start from and end at the market square in the city centre. There will be a 30-minute stopover at the seaside Nallikari beach area.

Group size: max 55 persons with reservations on a “first come first served" basis.

Price: free of charge

Registration opens in spring 2018, at which time this option can be chosen.

 

Guided walking tour in the city center (optional, at own cost)

18:00 - 20:00

Get to know Oulu by walking. This 2-hour guided walking tour will start at the City Hall in the centre, and end at the market square.

Group size: max. 25 persons, max 4 groups.

Price: 5 EUR/person

 

Sound & silence forest walk (optional, at own cost)

18:00 - 20:30

Sound & Silence forest walk introduces you to the practices of forest bathing and eco-therapy. Relax and open your senses by listening, seeing, feeling, touching, tasting and connecting – and feel the effects on your wellbeing! Photo: Simon N. Schmidt

Tuesday, September 4th, Oulu

Visit and Lunch at the Historical Maikkula Mansion (included in the registration fee)

12:00-15:00

During this lunch event, you get to enjoy a variety of locally produced delicacies, served at the historical premises of the Maikkula Mansion, established in the 17th century. The mansion is located by the beautiful river Oulujoki, 10 km upstream from the Oulu city centre. On the estate you can admire the old buildings of the courtyard that are still in active use and carefully restored with traditional methods, surrounded by the idyllic landscape and scenery over the river. The program will feature traditional Finnish folk dances and music, performed by the Polokkarit ensemble, and a short introduction to the exciting history of the Maikkula Mansion as a local trade center for tar, timber, salmon and burn liquor. Photo: Maikkula Estate

 

Congress Dinner at Oulu City Theatre (included in the registration fee)

After a busy day at the congress, we will gather at the Oulu City Theatre, located in the heart of the city by the market place. The unique theatre building, designed by the architects Marjatta and Martti Jaatinen and completed in 1972, is located on the small island of Vänmanninsaari in the estuary of the Oulu River, and it is partially built over the water. During the evening, we will enjoy dishes prepared with local ingredients carefully selected and prepared by the Chef Rôtisseurs of the Restaurant Vänmanni and her team. Wednesday, September 5th, Oulu

Venetian Garden Party (included in the registration fee)

18:00-22:00

The evening event will be held at Oulu University's Botanical Gardens as a Venetian Night party. "The Venetians", as this type of celebration is called by the locals, are common in the Oulu region to celebrate the end of the summer season and to welcome the approaching autumn. The beautiful Botanical Gardens will be decorated with lanterns and lights that twinkle in the evening darkness. The dinner consisting of locally produced ingredients and products will be served in large tents around the garden area, and will be followed by a variety of music and fire art performances and a live band. In addition, local food and beverage producers will be offering tasty samples of their products in the garden area, and the season's best products can be purchased to take back home.
