The UArctic is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its 2008 Rectors’ Forum, held in Rovaniemi Finland from February 27-29, 2008.
The Rovaniemi gathering marks the second annual Rectors’ Forum. The Forum brings together university and college Presidents, Rectors, Provosts, Chancellors and Vice-Presidents from member institutions to discuss themes relating to higher education. The Forum’s inaugural meeting was hosted by Dartmouth College in Hanover US in March 2007, and was attended by 28 guests. Participants were enthusiastic about the initiative of engaging university leadership more closely in the work of UArctic and agreed to work further on the operational guidelines for the collaboration.
The 2008 Rectors’ Forum is being hosted by the University of Lapland, the northernmost university in the EU. The Forum will also be held in conjunction with The Standing Committee of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region’s (SCPAR) annual meeting. A joint session between the two groups will focus on adaptation to climate change and borders and access to the sea has been organized, with many guest presenters offering expertise. The main themes which will be discussed during the business meeting are university-industry partnerships for sustainable development of region, as well as the development of a Charter for the University of the Arctic.
Organizers encourage interested institutions to register soon! Registration deadline is December 15th
