Europe, and the European Commission in particular, plays an increasingly important role for our continent's higher education institutions. The Commission's policies have an impact on institutional missions and positioning, and their programmes provide an important source of funding. It is therefore essential for universities and colleges in Europe to learn, as early as possible, about new trends on the European agenda. To do just this, i.e. to familiarise higher education institutions with the latest developments in European policy and programmes in education, training and research, is the purpose of ACA's European Policy Seminars. Since the launch of the seminar series in 2004, the first European Policy Seminar each year provides an overview of recent developments in European higher education policy. The already traditional event is extremely popular, and the limited number of seats fill up quickly.
"What's new in Brussels 2008" will present the latest information on, and analysis of, the new Erasmus Mundus Programme ('Erasmus Mundus II'), the priorities of the 'Benelux Presidency' for the Bologna Process until 2009, the first results of mobility under the bachelor/master architecture, reform and mobility within the doctoral programme and the Education & Training 2010 agenda. ACA is proud to once again have been able to win high-level European Commission experts as presenters. This year's speakers are Peter van der Hijden, John Smith, Angelique Verli, Michael Teutsch and Siegbert Wuttig. ACA Director Bernd Wächter will chair the event.
