The focus of the conference, entitled Melting Ice - a Hot Topic?, is the same as the topic of World Environment Day: decreasing ice and snow cover around the world. Politicians and climate change experts from around the world will discuss this phenomenon and its impacts on the people of the North.
The event, held in English and open to the general public, aims at giving an overview of global climate change and exposing the consequences of climate change on indigenous populations especially, as well as looking ahead at expected results and new knowledge from the IPY projects.
Among the speakers expected at the conference are: Norwegian Prime Minister Mr Jens Stoltenberg, Former Norwegian Prime Minister Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, Norwegian Minister of the Environment Ms Helen Bjørnøy, UNEP's Secretary General Mr Achim Steiner, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Dr Rajendra K.
