Topics for papers include:
-Digital resources from the high north, and methods how to integrate them in university and college curriculum.
-Network technologies and teaching and learning of English as a foreign language.
-Special challenges and problems in developing and supporting open and distance education and lifelong learning within -Arctic countries.
-ICT-supported learning aimed at students with special needs
-Policy issues related to the support of open and distance education for Arctic and Northern learners
Authors are cautioned that the International Review of Open and Distance Learning is not soliciting manuscripts dealing with technology use in traditional classrooms.

In the Norwegian university index IRRODL papers will count as a level 1 publication.

Special Edition: Frontiers in Open and Distance Learning in the North. Edited by Griff Richards (Athabasca University) and Steinar Thorvaldsen (University of Tromso)
The special issue will have its main focus on distance and open education in Arctic communities and Northern regions characterized by remote settlements and extreme climates. Particular emphasis will be placed on technology and E-learning methods for education and teacher development, digital resources from the Arctic region, and innovative projects related to the learning processes, the methodology of the field and appropriate information technologies necessary to develop and deliver content and support distant learners.
