AMAP is an international organization established in 1991 to implement components of the Arctic Environmental Protection Strategy (AEPS). Now a program group of the Arctic Council, AMAP's current objective is "providing reliable and sufficient information on the status of, and threats to, the arctic environment; and providing scientific advice on actions to be taken in order to support arctic governments."
The workshop will help those interested in arctic environments learn about how science and policy work together in this area. It will introduce early career researchers to AMAP as an organization that communicates science to policy makers and others. ECR and AMAP mentors will discuss the different fields of science AMAP is interested in, and ECR will work together to formulate a message of their concerns for future directions of study in AMAP. All workshop participants are encouraged to take part in both the workshop and the "Arctic as a Messenger" conference (4-6 May 2011).
Limited travel funds will be available for early career researchers on a competitive basis, with priority for those who have submitted an abstract to the meeting (please submit to amap@amap.no). To apply for the workshop and funding, please fill in the application here.
