The Forum had a special meeting with Pavel Sulyandziga, president of RAIPON, on the ongoing developments concerning the suspension of that organization by the Russian government.
Following the workshop, UArctic also participated in the Arctic NGO Forum’s business meeting, which provided a unique opportunity for the region’s non-governmental actors to discuss common concerns.
Launched in 2011, the Arctic NGO Forum is a new initiative that aims to provide a consistent way for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) concerned with Arctic environmental issues to get together, exchange ideas and perspectives and provide advice to the global Arctic community. The creation of this platform will allow NGOs the possibility to strengthen their positions and gain access to policy makers.UArctic is has been a member of the Arctic NGO Forum since its inception.

In advance of the Senior Arctic Official’s meeting of the Arctic
Council in Haparanda, Sweden, the Arctic NGO Forum organized a special
workshop on Oil & Gas Development,
Nov 12-13, 2013. Participating non-governmental organizations
(including the University of the Arctic), as well as representatives of
government and industry, engaged in discussions on the current prospects
and environmental concerns over increasing hydrocarbon development in
the region.
