I am formally trained as a mathematician, however, I am also interested in cross-‐disciplinary studies of the mathematical science from historical, educational, cultural, linguistic, aesthetic, and gender perspective point of view. I visited the Faroe Islands for one week, where I had the opportunity of visiting the University of the Faroe Islands. At the University of Faroe Islands my view was broadened through various conversations with several of the colleagues there.
I was impressed by the visions of the Faroese scholars from mathematics in teacher education, mathematical research and education at the university in general, science education and research, as well as the Faroese language and literature from the past, in the present and in the future, and more. At the University we also spoke about prospective future collaboration opportunities within education, research and development. For instance, they offer their summer school of Faroese language – one of the endangered languages in the world -which I would be interested in taking.
I cannot mention every individual I met by names, however, I would like to thank at least the following people: the Rector of the University of the Faroe Islands, Sigurð í Jákupsstovu, both Deans of the University faculties Malan Marnersdóttir (Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education) and Hans Pauli Joensen (Faculty of Natural and Health Sciences), including colleagues, Gunnar Restorff, Harald W. Knudsen, Erla Olsen, Qin Xin, and Holger Arnbjerg, Director of the International Office.
Last but not least, a heartfelt thank you to Mildrid, Bergur and Hanus for their fantastic hospitality. I will always cherish my visit top the Faroe Islands and look forward to a future cooperation. By all means I would like to go the Faroe Islands again.
PS. To be lightly packed, I did not want to bring the camera charger and tried to charge the battery before departure. However, when Harald W. Knudsen showed me how they developed their textbooks in a unique way, I took out my camera with permission, only to discover that the battery was left in the charger -at home. Thus I luckily have a couple of photos taken by others.
