The research was conducted in Yakutia by representatives of "Interregional Center for Environmental Audit and Consulting”. The expedition collected materials needed to assess the negative impact of the planned economic activity on the original habitat, traditional way of life, farming and fisheries, socio-economic and cultural development of the indigenous population in the Olenek area.
Survey items included environmental problems, traditional economic activities of local residents (reindeer herding, hunting, fishing), ethnography.
Studies have shown a huge impact of distant indigenous peoples’ life as it is highly dependent on climate conditions. Therefore, method of ethnological expertise is not good for the North of the republic, which is used, for example, in South Yakutia.
The results of the expedition could serve as a basis for the development of activities aimed at the socio-economic and cultural development of the indigenous population in Olenek area. Materials will help to ensure an effective social and political control at all stages of the planned economic and other activities.
