Transport is on the brink of a new era of "smart mobility'' where infrastructure, transport means, travellers and goods will be increasingly interconnected to achieve optimised door-to-door mobility, higher safety, improved impact on climate and the environment and lower operational costs. In order to achieve efficiency at system-level, targeted efforts are needed to develop and validate new solutions that can be rapidly deployed, notably on corridors and in urban areas. They will address transport means and infrastructure and integrate them into a user friendly European transport system of smart connected mobility and logistics. Research and innovation on equipment and systems for vehicles, aircraft and vessels will make them smarter, more automated, cleaner and quieter, while reducing the use of fossil fuels.
