Various people affiliated with UArctic and working for UArctic will be attending the Arctic Science Summit Week and other related meetings organized around the ASSW.
The UArctic Board of Governors convene March 12-14, with their main focus on reviews and reports from 2015 and initatives for 2016. In addition, the Board will welcome UArctic's new Vice-President Finance, Development and Engagement, Sheila Downer.
The UArctic network also has a delegation present at the Arctic Council's Senior Arctic Officials meeting March 15-17. UArctic was initially proposed as an idea by the Arctic Council and has had observer status since its incepetion. UArctic uses these meeting to regularly report on its progress.
To coincide with the ASSW, UArctic also launches its new Research Infrastructure Catalogue, a free online service which enables worldwide search and identification of research infrastructures and facilities located at and operated by UArctic member institutions. This will help institutions and individial researchers find further research collaboration possibilities.
The first fully developed Model Arctic Council, an initative of the UArctic Thematic Network of the same name, will see students from across the Arctic and the world convene March 9-15 to represent and simulate the work of member states, permanent participants, and observers of the Arctic Council, working towards real solutions to Arctic challenges. They will present draft resolutions and a report to the Senior Arctic Officials assembly at the end of their week-long session.
In addition, UArctic will be represented in the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) Council meeting on March 14. UArctic, IASSA and IASC had their first joint meeting a year ago at the ASSW 2015 in Toyama, Japan, and during the past year cooperation has continued in a form of sharing knowledge and supporting each other's activities.
Those attending the ASSW can learn more about UArctic and its activities by visiting the UArctic booth in the Exhibition area at the UAF Wood Center, March 14-15 (materials available also on March 16).
