On this occasion, HSH the Sovereign Prince was keen to unite the key figures and partners of his Foundation who have contributed to this decade of actions to promote environmental protection and sustainable development.
This unique event, organised with the generous support of Rolex, a long-standing active partner of the Foundation, honoured the men and women who lead the way to responsible action, reconciling humanity and its environment. International personalities were thus distinguished for their exemplary commitment in the Foundation’s three priority areas for action:
· The “Biodiversity” award was presented to Mr Luc Hoffmann for his visionary approach with regard to the protection of biodiversity and the initiatives he has developed with the MAVA Foundation, the Tour du Valat Biological Station, WWF International and the International Foundation of Banc d’Arguin.
· The “Water” award was attributed to the Water Research Commission, represented by its Director General, Mr Dhesigen Naidoo, for the remarkable actions it has implemented in South Africa in sustainable water resource management.
· The “Climate Change” award went to Mrs Laurence Tubiana in acknowledgement of her outstanding commitment to the climate issue, from the creation of IDDRI to her active contribution towards the successful negotiations at COP 21.
UArctic has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Foundation, and has over the years benefitted from financial support to a number of UArctic projects as well as from the strong personal engagement in UArctic by the HSH the Sovereign Prince Albert II.
