The second day of the science section of the first ever UArctic Congress 2016 in St. Petersburg opened with keynote presentations from leading northern scientists David Hik and Terry Callaghan.

The three-day science section of the UArctic Congress 2016 was officially opened on Wednesday, Sept 14 on the Mikhailovskaya Dacha Campus of Saint Petersburg University.

The official opening session of the UArctic Congress 2016 took place at the SPbU Ceremonial Hall and was followed by an icebreaker on campus premises.

A unique component of the UArctic Congress took place today as leaders of UArctic's member institutions met jointly with our Board and representatives of Thematic Networks.

This year's Student Forum is organized in conjunction with the UArctic Congress 2016 in St Petersburg. The Student Forum participants have their own program on Sept 12-14, and they will also attend the Congress science sessions and plenaries on Sept 15 and 16.

The second group of UArctic Student Ambassadors receive their training and participate in the annual Student Forum in St Petersburg as part of the UArctic Congress 2016, and also meet Ambassadors from the first group.

The Thematic Network on Permafrost/Natural hazards summer field school was held in the North-Eastern Federal University on August 1-20, Yakutsk. The school was led by Kenji Yoshikawa, a scientist and professor from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
