The new Thematic Networks are:
- Arctic Coastal Communities for Sustainability, hosted by University of the Faroe Islands, Faroe Islands
- Arctic Economic Science, lead Professor Stein Østbye, School of Business and Economics, hosted by UiT- The Arctic University of Norway, Norway
- Arctic Safety and Security, hosted by Nord University, Norway
- Language Documentation and Language Technologies for Circumpolar Region, hosted by Buryat State University, the Russian Federation
- Sustainable Arctic Resources and Social Responsibility, hosted by Copenhagen Business School, Denmark
- Sustainable Production and Foraging of Natural Products in the North, hosted by University of Helsinki, Finland
Once approved by Council, the thematic network is given provisional status for a period of one year. In the second year, if the new thematic network has shown that activities have been initiated, then their endorsement will become final.
This year the final endorsements were given to the following Thematic Networks:
- Arctic Telecommunications and Networking, hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA
- Working in the Arctic, hosted by the Northern Arctic Federal University, The Russian Federation
- Model Arctic Council, hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA
- Northern Nursing Education, hosted by the University of Saskatchewan, Canada
- Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity in Education, hosted by the University of Lapland, Finland
- UArctic World Ensemble, hosted by UiT the Arctic University of Norway.
