As host of UArctic’s Russian Information Services unit since May 2011, North-Eastern Federal University plays a key role in maintaining UArctic’s Russian language web site by translating UArctic news articles and other key information into Russian. As Russian institutions make up more than half of UArctic’s members, this is a vital service to ensure their full engagement in the network.
UArctic President Lars Kullerud noted, "I am very pleased that we have had such a strong partner in Yakutia all of these years, and even more pleased now that this partnership will continue also into the future. It is a very important that UArctic has information services also in the Russian language." North-Eastern Federal University is a founding member of UArctic, and has been strongly engaged in its development, leadership and program delivery since its launch in 2001.
North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk (NEFU) is one of the ten Russian federal universities. Recent reforms in the Russian Federation have created a new network of federal universities. This trend towards integration and modernization in higher university education is typical of many countries.
