SPbU scientists’ projects were presented during Russian Research and Educational Consortium meeting, which was held within the Forum.

During the meeting SPbU Vice-Rector for research Sergei Aplonov shared with the main directions of arctic research in the university. Vice-Rector noted the importance of interdisciplinary projects, and identified one of the key goals of scientists on the definition of the continental shelf.

Sergei Aplonov highlighted the necessity of government, business and science efforts to synchronize in order to deal with the issues of integrated development of the Arctic region.

The Director of the SPbU Institute of Earth Sciences and the Vice-Rector of the Russian Geographical society Kirill Chistyakov also took part in the meeting. He spoke about the university’s educational programs dedicated to polar and marine research, and integrated development of the Arctic region, including the Master program of a double diploma in cooperation with the Arctic University of Norway (UiT)

Dmitri Tulupov, the university researcher, suggested to make SPbU a coordinator of research activities related to the implementation of international economic and policy interests of Russia in the Arctic. Among the main directions of the project, the expert pointed out international relations and military security in the region, the approaches of foreign states to the formulation and implementation of national Arctic strategies, the investment potential of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, the US and EU sanctions policy, and its consequences for the social and economic development of the Russian Arctic zone.
