Prior to the start of the Council meeting, an optional excursion to the town of Sisimiut is arranged from August 12 to 14. With pre-Council side-meetings scheduled for Monday the 14th, the Council meeting will begin on the 15th with introductions and updates on UArctic’s activities, and will continue with Council meeting and networking sessions until mid-morning on the 17th. During cultural and public events, the host will put particular focus on the issue of language in terms of internationalization and nation building processes. After the Council meeting, on Thursday the 17th, the host offers a guided tour with insight into the capital’s local history, and views of the spectacular natural surroundings of Nuuk.

The theme of this year's Rectors’ Forum meeting is The Inhabited Arctic: Lands, Peoples and Scholarship in the Circumpolar North. Institution leaders (i.e. rectors, chancellors, presidents, provosts, vice-rectors, vice-chancellors, vice-presidents, vice-provosts, etc.) are eligible to participate as formal delegates in the Rectors’ Forum. They may, in addition, bring along expert advisor(s) and/or support staff as part of their delegation. Institution leaders alre also invited to sponsor one or two students from their institution to participate in the Student Forum, organized in conjunction with the Rectors’ Forum.
Following the Rectors’ Forum, the University of Aberdeen is organizing an associated international conference from August 27th to 29th, 2017 to which faculty and students are also warmly invited. An excursion for participants including castles, whisky distilleries, archaeological sites and stone circles will be organized on August 26th, between the two events.
