Built as a portal, ArcticStat takes its users to the table they are looking for, whether it is located on the web site of a statistics agency or stored in the ArcticStat databank itself. The new website provides improved navigation and introduces a new interactive map of the Arctic circumpolar regions and a section devoted to personalized notifications. The new website is accessible on a laptop, smartphone or tablet.
The data of ArcticStat mainly comes from national statistics agencies of the Arctic countries, their regional offices or from government ministries. It contains more than 11,600 statistical tables about population, language, health, education, migration, economy, employment and other social realities.
ArcticStat was created by the Canada Research Chair on Comparative Aboriginal Condition at Université Laval (Canada). ArcticStat was officially endorsed by the Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) of the Arctic Council during the ministerial meeting held in Salekhard, Russian Federation at the end of October 2006.
Université Laval has been a member of UArctic since 2002.
