GRID-Arendal led the course where students learned more about Marine Spatial Planning, The Law of the Sea, Blue Carbon, and how to Integrate Ecosystem Services into policy and planning during their workshop on coastal ecology and global change in the Anthropocene.
As part of the workshop on integrating ecosystem services, students visited Raet National Park with UArctic President, Lars Kullerud, to learn more about geology and work on a group project. The outcome of the project is a report of recommendations to the park management along with a presentation that will happen in the coming weeks.
Molly Reamon, a graduate student in the coastal ecology program said explains the importance of this course, "these are all extremely important topics for a coastal ecologist (or any scientist) to understand because no matter how much time and effort you put into your research, it won’t make a difference in the end if you’re unable to communicate it to people outside of your field".
