The project will start on the1st September, 2022 and end on the 31st August, 2025. Title of the project is: “Conceptualising Age-friendly Environments: Perspectives of older non-European immigrants in Finland”. The research will be conducted at the Unit for Gender Studies of the Faculty of Education at the University of Lapland. The project will receive support from the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care (CoEAgeCare) at the University of Helsinki.
The project sets out to produce knowledge on how older immigrants from Asia and Africa in Finland characterise an age-friendly environment (AFE) and how the diversity of immigrant backgrounds has been considered in Finnish legislation and official guidance.
The aim of the project is to contribute critically on the concept of an age-friendly environment as a lens to assess older immigrants’ opportunities to have their voices heard and to improve their situation. The project will also contribute critically to societal debates on policy reforms and social innovations at local, national, and international levels. The project outcomes will offer a body of knowledge contributing to innovations in developing safe living environments for ageing.
UArctic Thematic Network on Ageing and Gender in the Arctic, will support the implementation of the project.
