During the first day of the meeting, the Assembly of UArctic elected new Board Chair, Board members and a student representative, as well as re-elected Board members for 2nd and 3rd term.
The Assembly made the following elections:
- Frederik Paulsen as a Board Chair for 2022-2025
- Aaja Chemnitz Larsen as a new Board member for 2022-2025
- Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn as a new Board member for 2022-2025
- Magnus Tumi Guðmundsson for a second term (2022-2025) as a Board member
- Robert Sauvé for a second term (2022-2025) as a Board member
- Jouko Niinimäki for a third term (2022-2025) as a Board member
- Montana Rose Murphy for a fixed three-year term as a Board student representative
UArctic congratulates the newly elected Board members and is pleased about the added competence and experience that they bring to our Board.
UArctic welcomed 11 new members to the network, bringing UArctic's total membership to 176:

The Assembly also welcomed four new Thematic Networks:
- Thematic Network on Decolonization of Arctic Library and Archives Metadata (DALAM), hosted by Polar Libraries Colloquy, Canada
- Thematic Network on Digital North: Three-Dimensional Technologies and Arctic Education, hosted by UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Norway
- Thematic Network on Frozen Arctic Conservation, hosted by University of Lapland, Finland
- Thematic Network on Northern and Arctic Island Studies Research, hosted by University of the Highlands and Islands, Scotland
Other important decisions taken by the Assembly:
- Approve the Financial Statements and Auditor Report 2021, as well as the Annual Report 2021
- Verify the Annual Operating Budget 2022
- Keep the membership fees in 2023 in the same level
- Elect Liisa Holmberg as the Assembly Vice-Chair, Lena-Maria Nilsson as the Assembly Secretary and Mauri Ylä-Kotola as a member of the Nominations Committee
- Invite Pål Markusson and Johan Mathis Turi as to Friends of UArctic
- Endorse the UArctic Avatitsinni Committee and elect Janne Näkkäläjärvi as a new Avatitsinni Committee member
- Endorse the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)
- Approve amendments to UArctic Bylaws
- Endorse the Board decision to have the next year’s UArctic Assembly on 29 May – 2 June, 2023 in Quebec City
- Endorse the Board decision to organize UArctic Assembly and Congress 2024 in Bodø, Norway on May 30 – June 3 2024 as part of the Norwegian chairmanship program of the Arctic Council
