The Conference is the first in the cycle of meetings that the City of Rovaniemi and the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland plan to organize in order to reignite the enthusiasm for Arctic cooperation and to pave the way towards Finnish chairmanship in the Arctic Council.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Arctic Cities, Global Processes and Local Realities”. The event will be scientific in nature but will also aim at bridging science and policy-making. Therefore, apart from scientific sessions, the conference will include two plenary sessions: first, on the history and future of the Arctic cooperation, and second, on Arctic cities cooperation with the participation of Arctic Mayors.

We look forward to seeing you in Rovaniemi!

Esko Lotvonen
Mayor, City of Rovaniemi

Paula Kankaanpää
Director, Arctic Centre, University of Lapland
