The degree programmes at the University of Lapland are built on the strategic focus points of the University. Elements of the core strengths in the education and research of the University, such as sustainable development, northern well-being, responsible tourism and culture centered service design, can be found in all four programmes.
Master´s degree programme in Arctic Art and Design has been developed to respond to the changing role of the creative professional in society. The content is designed to harness the potential of service design and applied visual arts in social, community or business contexts. If you are interested in new tools and methods for creative collaboration, this is the programme for you. Hazal Doğa from Turkey, studying her second and final year in the programme, appreciates the real life projects they have been working with:
“The projects we have are usually on tackling problems like designing a future tourism service for sustainable development or forming an art path for the community of Lapland. I want to solve wicked problems and make the world a better place. I might not be a superhero but after studying here, I know that if we work together then we can tackle big problems.”
Media Education develops competences in the areas of media in teaching and learning, media in society and media and psychosocial well-being. Natalia Nikolaeva from Russia describes her programme as bold, enlightening and expanding:
“Bold due to the fact that students taught are pioneers of the subject. Enlightening due to the amount of analysis media education requires, every day giving you a new perspective. Finally, expanding, because we are constantly examining and developing ways in which media education can affect our daily lives.”
