UArctic Congress 2018 begins today in Oulu and runs all week before concluding in Helsinki on Friday, September 7. The event brings together key UArctic meetings of its Council, rectors, and Thematic Networks together with high-level keynote presentations and a full science conference with nearly 50 parallel sessions into one single gathering.

It is an integral part of Finland’s Arctic Council chairmanship program, highlighting the themes and priorities of the Finnish chairmanship, including the goals of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, supporting gender equality, and the Paris Agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The program of the first day includes meetings of the Council of UArctic, leads of our Thematic Networks, and a roundtable discussion for rectors

Highlights on Tuesday, September 4, include lunch and social program at the historic Maikkula mansion, followed by the official Congress Opening featuring speeches by Finland's Prime Minister Juha Sipilä, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, and Aleksi Härkönen, Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials of the Arctic Council.
