The results of this survey conducted by Polar Educators International (PEI), its subsequent analysis, and outcomes, will form the core of a report to IASC (will be delivered by May 2024) exploring the feasibility and value of an integrated approach to Arctic science planning and engaging educators ‘upstream’ in the polar research planning process. The report will include results, an executive summary, recommendations and actions, an analysis of the value and framework for including polar educators in ICARP IV and Arctic research planning, and suggest a format for Polar Educators and Arctic researchers working together in Inter-Connecting Communities to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing Arctic building “Knowledge for a Sustainable Arctic”, and strengthening these efforts through education and capacity building for the next generation. It will be publicly available on the PEI website.

Who can participate

  • All members of four IASC Working Groups who funded this work - Atmosphere, Cryosphere, Marine, Social & Human Working Groups - are asked to complete the survey
  • All members of Research Priority Team 6, who are focusing on “Preparing present and future generations through Education, Outreach Communication, Capacity Building, and Networking” are asked to take part
  • Participants in ASSW 2024

PEI especially encourages Early Career Researchers (ECRs), Arctic Indigenous representatives, and members of polar education organizations and projects to contribute their thoughts, ideas, and requirements to this process.
