In the guide, Dr. Itchuaqiyaq provides a starting place for equitable Arctic research. Itchuaqiyaq uses her expertise in Arctic research, expertise gained from participating in Arctic research from both the academic and community perspective, to deliver clear, actionable advice toward equitable Arctic research practices. This guide, although self-published, was peer reviewed by Arctic scholars, including Indigenous Arctic scholars and community partners.

Itchuaqiyaq is an Iñupiaq scholar from northwest Alaska who specializes in equitable engagement with Arctic communities. She combines her academic background in the humanities and environmental sciences to support culturally appropriate and capacity-driven Arctic research practices. Her work acts as a bridge between Arctic Indigenous communities, science, and academia. She is also an author on the National Climate Assessment 5 (NCA5), Alaska Chapter, and co-lead for the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (IARPC) Participatory Research and Indigenous Leadership in Research (PILR) collaborative team. Itchuaqiyaq also serves on several boards, including the Caleb Scholars Program and the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS).
