Enjoy a cocktail hour and a three-course dinner featuring northern and boreal products!
On the final evening of the UArctic Assembly, you can join a banquet dinner at an astonishing venue, which used to be the original location of Université Laval.
Le Séminaire de Québec was founded on March 26, 1663 by saint François de Laval. Originally, the mission of this priests’ community was to serve the clergy and to work actively for the evangelization of the colony. One hundred years later, in 1763, the Treaty of Paris affirmed that higher education should thereafter be entrusted to the priests of the Seminary. Following this decree, le Séminaire de Québec founded L’Université Laval in 1852.
The banquet will be held in the Salle des Promotions. After its construction in 1854, it quickly became the central building of Université Laval. At the time it was the largest building in Quebec City. In its early days, La Salle des Promotions was used for many activities, and because of its majestic cachet, its fame went far beyond the university sphere. Many type of events have been held at the Salle des Promotions, including banquets in presence of the Prince of Wales on 22 August 1860, the Duke of York in 1901, the President of the French Republic Vincent Auriol in 1951 and General Charles de Gaulle in 1960. If you are interested, you can read more about the history of Le Séminaire de Québec and La Salle des Promotions from here.
Additional to cocktail hour, festive music, and a three-course dinner, we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Iqaluit declaration and the founding of UArctic with a speech by Outi Snellman.
