Meeting included an open Arctic research seminar held on the first day, 25th, an internal network meeting on 26th held as a hybrid meeting with 27 network leaders present on site, and a half day fundraising workshop held on the last day.
The annual face to face meeting is important venue for leaders to meet and learn from each other, to build new connections and joint activities and to discuss about topical Arctic issues, this year main discussion and working was conducted for the Fourth International Conference of Arctic Research Planning process (ICARP IV) where UArctic is one of the partners and currently conducting community engagement for refining the Arctic research priorities. Other discussion items included Citizen Science, visualization pilot project of Thematic Networks and UArctic Chairs research activities, reporting and other items. Next Thematic Networks and UArctic Institute leadership team meeting will be held in conjunction of the Arctic Congress Bodø 2024, for which session call is currently open.
The Arctic Research Seminar was organized by the University of Lapland and hosted by Antti Syväjärvi, Rector of the University of Lapland. Welcoming greetings in the seminar were also given from the Government of Canada by H.E. Jeanette Stovel, Ambassador of Canada in Helsinki and from Outi Snellman, UArctic Secretary General. The seminar included four panels on geopolitics and law, climate change and human impact, alternative approaches on economic growth, and educations and social justice.
